White truffles, called faqaa or kamaa, are highly prized and harvested in the Arabian Peninsula during the rainy seasons between January and April. They have a spherical shape, smooth texture, and grow underground. To ensure good growth, truffles need monsoon rain, and they must be harvested at the right time between April and June. Truffle hunters can locate them by looking for cracks in the soil, specific desert plants, or grasses. Dogs are also used by some hunters to recognize their scent. They mainly grow in the northern area of Saudi Arabia, including the north-east and near the Iraqi border, as well as As Sadawi, Al Jadidah, Hafr Al, and Al Shoaba.
