Al-Qasab Salt

Al-Qasab is an ancient city in Saudi Arabia – in the Region of Riyadh – famous for its salt and grain production. The salt pans of Al Qasab stand in the middle of a desert area, in fact, they are located in an area bordered by large sand dunes of the Ad Dahna desert. These salt expanses are called sabkhah, an Arabic term for these areas bordered by sand dunes, which have a soft bed, not very cemented but impermeable due to periodic flooding and evaporation. The saline watercourses coming from the Hamada valley deposit silt, sand and salt. It is a very important place for salt production in Saudi Arabia and today is a popular tourist destination for those who want to experience the mining and processing of the white gold of Al-Qasab.
